December 5, 2003 -   Environment, Safety, and Risk Associates Corporation (ESRA) -Arizona is pleased to announce that it has been awarded an Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) contract to recommend a suitable product for a pilot Visual Acuity Test for any state seeking changes in its driver license vision testing process.

"This is a very exciting opportunity for us.  Our objective is to promote highway safety through improved visual acuity screening of at-risk visually impaired drivers through sound statistical analyses and engineering design.  We will also survey Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) officials in all fifty states to review their current visual testing processes and policies.  Thanks to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), the awarding of this contract to ESRA is a win-win situation for all drivers in Arizona and on our nation's roads." said Sandy Straus, President and Senior Engineer at ESRA

In many states, both older drivers and visually-impaired drivers account for a disproportionate number of vehicle traffic-related fatalities.  In Arizona and Florida, for example, where there are fast-growing and significant populations of age 65 and over cohorts, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that vehicle traffic accidents in these states exceed the U.S. average and represent the largest number of these unintentional injuries for these age groups.

ESRA offers expertise in risk analyses, assessment, management, training, and safety in the transportation, construction, environmental, geological, mining, nuclear, and radioactive waste engineering areas.  ESRA caters to a multidisciplinary group of agencies, attorneys, contractors, engineers, finance professionals, scientists, and a variety of governmental, tribal, and industrial clients. The ESRA team consists of an outstanding and independent group of engineers, scientists, and contractors. ESRA is a female-owned and federal-certified small business serving local, state, national, and international enterprises.
